Ship construction and repair have existed since ancient times in Algeria. But it was only during the Regency of Algiers that these activities reached their peak, with the construction of many ships of different types using wood from the forests of Bejaia.
In 1869, the Algiers Chamber of Commerce built two dry docks at the port of Algiers. Six years later, in 1875, the company “Les Ateliers Terrin” was created. It carried out ship repair activities until 1975.
Subsequently, the Algerian Ship Repair and Construction Company, SARCOS, took over. In 1980, SARCOS became the Ship Repair Company of the Wilaya of Algiers, abbreviated as ERENAWA.
In 1987, the merger of the maintenance unit of SNTM/CNAN and ERENAWA gave birth to the National Ship Repair Company – ERENAV. Spa to efficiently manage this activity.
